TN TEC 5 202 SIGNAL DEPOT CO
WORLD WAR II

Cemetery notes and/or description:
The Cemetery is located 9/10 of one mile east of the intersection of SR221 on the south side of US 70a/79/76.

The only visible indicator of the cemetery from the road is a 18" x 18" green Highway Dept. sign that is posted immediately next to the steep narrow gravel drive that leads off the highway. The sign reads simply "Rosamon Cemetery".

Other markers on the south side of the road include a small green highway mile marker "9/76-79" and a yellow highway sign, with a curved arrow, indicating the approaching curve as the road nears an overpass that crosses the railroad tracks.

The cemetery is about 150 feet from the road with a simple cattle gate marking the entrance. The cemetery is fenced with an open wire "cattle fence" and is pretty well surrounded by a wooded area on three sides. To the west is an open field or pasture area which gives some view of the road from the rear portion of the cemetery.

ON 22 DEC 1681, A 200 ACRE PARCEL WAS SURVEYED FOR JOHN ROSS (1649-1695) WHICH WOULD BE NAMED "ROSSES RANGE." GRANT # 550. A PATENT FOR THIS PARCEL WAS ISSUED TO JOHN ROSS ON 20 AUG 1683. THIS LAND WAS LOCATED IN WHAT IS NOW THE NECK DISTRICT OF DORCHESTER COUNTY, MARYLAND, ON THE WEST SIDE OF PHILLIPS CREEK ON ROSSES NECK. CURRENTLY, IT IS PART OF THE LAND OWNED BY JAMES S. KEELTY. UNFORTUNATELY, AS DISCUSSED BELOW, OTHER LAND IN THE IMMEDIATE AREA ALSO BECAME KNOWN AS "ROSSES RANGE" WHICH MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO ASCERTAIN JUST WHAT PARCELS ARE BEING CONSIDERED, ESPECIALLY WITH REGARDS TO THE ORIGINAL 200 ACRES.

1790 Orangeburg District, SC Census shows Absolam Sr & Jr. Absalom Sr household Shows 1 male over 16, 2 males under 16, 2 females in the household.
It is thought that since the area in NC where Absalom was born was mainly swamp land, that when the children came of age they moved to find better farm land to raise their families. Several of Absalom's children moved to other states. After the Revolutionary war many recieved Land Grants for their service. These land grants split the Tylers into Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Georgia, Alabama, Florida and Louisianna.

743 Note:

John was a young member of an ancient Shropshire family, represented in Great Britain in the elder line by the late Sir William Tyler and Sir Charles Tyler of Parliment and Admiralty. John named one of his children after Sir Charles Tyler.
- Jan 23, 1685 John gave a receipt to Martin Gardiner, his guardian and stepfather, for the share given him by his mother's Deed, Anne Tyler. John Tyler married Martin Gardiner's daughter Mary, and moved to Hanover, Virginia. The land on which the College of William & Mary was built was aquired from his estate.
Later, John and his line of descendants migrated to Bladen County, North Carolina. The land was not the best, in fact some of it was swamp land. some of his descendants later years moved across the state line to Horry County South Carolina. After the Revolutionary War many of his descendants again scattered to Mississippi, South Carolina, Missouri, Texas and Louisianna and Georgia. Many were given land grants for their service in the Wars.
John Tyler had two brothers, Henry and Daniel. His brother Henry Tyler and his descendants stayed in VA and several generations later his line produced the 10th President of the USA, President John Tyler.

All of the above tends to support the 1877 date, yet if true, he would have been born one month after his sister, Caroline. He was also not found on the 1880 census while Caroline was. No primary source for the specific birth dates of these children has been provided and clearly there are problems here.
