- Died
At her residence (near Sidney, Iowa), July 28, 1879, at (?) o'clock, a.m., of cholera morbus, Mrs. Prudence Christman, wife of Gabriel Christman. Aged 69 years, 3 mo's and 22 days.
Mrs. Christman was born in Ashe county, North Carolina, Apr. 1, 1810. She removed, with her parents, to Grayson county, Virginia, while a child, where she married Elias Davis, with whom she emigrated to Platte county, Missouri, in 1832. Two years after she, with her husband, removed to Andrew county, Missouri, where she lived until the fall of 1863 where, being forced by the fortunes of war, she removed to Wyoming, Otoe Co., Neb. Her husband died June 22, 1871. In 1875 she was married to Mr. Christman, and removed to Fremont county, Iowa. She was the mother of eleven children, eight of whom (four sons and four daughters) are still living. She became a member of the Methodist church in early life, and during a long and eventful career, exemplified the beauties of her professions by her motherly love and christian charity which she bestowed upon all around her. She leaves a host of sorrowing friends in every neighborhood where she has lived; but all are assured that as her death will be felt to be a loss to earthly friends, it is but the birth, to her, of an eternal gain.
